Hi, I am Amy Heap and I am dedicated to helping those who serve and protect us every day, first responders. The unique challenges each day brings, whether you are on or off duty, can be life changing. I recognize that this career is a CALLING. It is WHO YOU ARE. A Brotherhood/Sisterhood. How do I know? I have been a LEO wife for many years and have experienced up close how your job can effect many areas of you life.
In my work as a therapist, I recognize that constant exposure to cumulative stress, life-threatening situations, and the physical strain of working long hours on little to no sleep can negatively impact overall mental health, increasing the vulnerability and risk of substance abuse, addiction, depression, and marital tensions. Over time, and if left unchecked, the cumulative stress will change you and can become all consuming. I even see it become secondary trauma and compassion fatigue. I have been working with trauma for many years and am trained in Eye Movement Desentization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Using EMDR, I have helped many first responders heal from the horrific experiences they have faced in their careers.
I want to acknowledge the courage it takes to seek help and I want you to know, YOU are important. YOU are valuable. YOU deserve to live a happy and healthy life. I believe that no matter what your struggle, there is always opportunity for a positive outcome.
I strive to provide a safe space for you to “just be you” without judgement. A space filled with empathy and compassion that fosters hope, empowerment, healing and growth. ***Our office is not affiliated with any agency or department which means your therapy is confidential and will not be shared with your commanders.
