    Areas of Expertise

Are you tired of feeling uncertain about how to help your child or teen? Are you unsure about who to trust with your child’s mental health? Are you overwhelmed with a mountain of choices and emotions surrounding your child? I am here to help climb this mountain with you. I partner with parents to explore their child’s or teen’s inner world and begin to find a path that works for your family. When working with children and teens, I help them find ways to express who they are and understand the realities of their world.

Children and teens are faced with countless trials that can leave them feeling anxious, depressed, or confused. Parents often will see their behavior in school decline such as not being able to focus on work, being pulled out of class, or hearing their child say that they don’t feel like they have any friends. I find that kids are so hard on themselves and internally struggle with perfectionism and negative self belief but they just can’t express or understand it like an adult would. So instead parents see them disrupting family life with throwing tantrums, trying to get out of homework, or fighting with their siblings.

Play is a child’s natural language, and I predominantly use play therapy in my work with children. The playroom is an opportunity to explore and let loose as it provides your child with a space to freely express who they are. With all the pressures on kids, they hear messages such as: “get up at this time”, “get to school”, “do this good”, “this is important” , “this is necessary”. Kids lose the ability to play, to be seen, and to validate their own experiences. It is a real problem that can carry over to adulthood. The playroom gives kids a chance to express themselves in the way they want to express themselves. This allows a space for independent choice in their life, allows their personality to come through, and reflects what goes on in their real world life.

I will also bring you as the parent in and offer a supportive space to help you better understand your child or teen as well as how to help them. Parents usually breathe a sigh of relief as I normalize their situation. You will be given tools that you can start to use on how to set limits while still validating your kid’s experience and feelings at the same time. You will start to notice changes in the behavior of your child or teen.

Not only do I find working with children rewarding, but I find it a privilege to partner with adults on your own journey of exploration. My office is found to be a space of empathic listening and encouraging support. Whether you are wanting to process what is going on with your child or just work on your own journey in life, I am here to help. Usually I see young adults dealing with loneliness, feeling disconnected from the people around them, anxiety around career choices, self identity exploration, and feeling the need to perform and be perfect. I offer space for connection and validating your experience. We work together to live the life you envision.
