The pressures of living in our society today can be overwhelming to navigate and can leave people feeling burdened, ashamed, stuck, or hopeless. We have more stressors than ever before with social media 24/7, excessive commitments and overscheduling, and intense mixed messages about how to achieve a sense of self-worth. Throw in life’s curveballs like relationship issues, major life events, significant losses, addiction …. You name it, it can be just plain hard and isolating to try to hold it all together. So stop striving.
I offer a welcoming, non-judgmental place to shed those “shoulds” you keep hearing about who you need to be, and be accepted for all that you are. I believe each person’s story is worthy of being told in a safe, understanding place and I will work with you to unravel the negative thoughts that seem to spiral in your mind, sort through the issues that keep you feeling stuck, and finally experience self-acceptance, peace, and lasting change.
I have specific training in trauma therapy using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), perinatal mental health, animal assisted therapy, and addiction/substance abuse. I am able to incorporate Christian faith-based counseling upon client request.
I received a Master of Arts in Counseling from Northern Arizona University in 2011 and am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Addiction Counselor. I have experience working in the foster care system, residential settings, and school/college settings, in addition to my work in group/private practice. I enjoy spending time with my husband, son and daughter, and extended family. I love to watching movies, reading, drinking lots of coffee, and visiting the beach as often as possible.
Animal Assisted Therapy: Kate is able to offer animal assisted therapy with her dog Franklin. Franklin is trained and certified to participate in counseling (with the client’s permission) and is particularly great at helping people with anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress. He can be an active participant in the session using his trained animal assisted techniques, or he can simply just offer his peaceful presence nearby to help clients feel safe and comfortable. He is 4 years old, weighs 13 pounds, and is non-shedding/hypoallergenic (Cockapoo).
