You’ve been doing the work.
You show up to therapy. You’ve gained real insight. You understand your patterns better than you ever have. Your therapist is skilled, and the relationship matters to you.
And yet—something specific keeps tugging at you. A loss you haven’t fully grieved. A pattern that keeps showing up in your marriage. A trauma that still lives in your body, even though you can talk about it clearly now.
You’re not doing anything wrong. Your therapy isn’t failing. You might simply be ready for a season of deeper, more focused work.
That’s exactly what therapy intensives are designed for.
What Are Therapy Intensives?
A therapy intensive is one focused week of extended therapy sessions, built around a specific issue you’re ready to move through.
Instead of meeting for a single session each week, you work with your therapist in longer sessions across one week, with intentional breaks built in between. Those breaks aren’t downtime. They’re part of the design. Time to walk, journal, reflect, and let the work settle before going back in.
At Authentic Connections Counseling Center in Castle Rock, our therapy intensives follow a simple structure:
Step 1: Consultation and Preparation. We start with an intake session to get clear on what you want to move through, make sure the format is a good fit, and prepare you for the week ahead. You’ll receive a client workbook to use before, during, and between sessions.
Step 2: The Intensive Week. Your sessions take place across one week, with rest and integration time built in between days. Your therapist designs the experience around you: your goals, your pacing, your nervous system.
Step 3: Follow-Up. About a week or two after your intensive, we meet again to anchor what shifted and decide together what comes next.
We offer therapy intensives for both individuals and couples, in-person in Castle Rock and online across Colorado.
Why a Different Format Matters
Weekly therapy is valuable. We believe in it deeply. It’s the heart of what we do. Ongoing sessions provide consistency, safety, and a trusted relationship where insight and healing grow over time.
Therapy intensives offer something different, and the two work beautifully together.
Think about how anything meaningful deepens in your life. A weekend retreat lands differently than scattered free hours. A focused week on one project moves it further than the same hours spread across months. Depth has its own rhythm.
Your nervous system works the same way. Some healing happens gradually, through steady weekly work. And some healing benefits from sustained, concentrated focus, enough time in one container for the work to go deep, settle, and integrate while you’re still in it.
An intensive isn’t more therapy. It’s a carefully designed experience built around how your nervous system actually heals: extended time to go deep, built-in space to integrate, and a structure that supports real, lasting change.
Who Therapy Intensives Are For
An intensive might be the right fit if any of these sound familiar:
You’ve been in therapy and feel like you’ve plateaued. The insight is there, but something isn’t moving. You can name the pattern clearly, you’re just ready for it to actually shift.
You want to work through something specific. A trauma. Or a relationship pattern. A pivotal life transition. A grief that’s been waiting for room to breathe.
Your schedule makes weekly sessions hard, but you can carve out one focused week. Some seasons of life don’t allow consistency. An intensive offers depth within a defined window.
Every session seems to end right when it gets real. Fifty minutes is enough time to open something important—and sometimes not enough time to finish it. Extended sessions let you stay with the work.
You’re ready to go deeper, and you want a container big enough to hold it.
Therapy intensives work best when you arrive with something specific you want to move through and genuine readiness to do that work.
Therapy Intensives for Couples
If you and your partner keep finding yourselves in the same argument, the same distance, the same impasse – a couples intensive gives you dedicated time to go after the root of it together.
Here’s what makes the couples format powerful: both of you are seen. Both of you are heard. In extended sessions, there’s enough time for each partner to go deep without the clock cutting things short—and enough time for the relational pattern that’s been running the show to finally have room to shift.
Our couples intensives follow the same structure as individual intensives: extended sessions across one week, with intentional breaks for individual reflection between sessions. We’ve found that the time apart during the breaks is just as important as the time in the room together. What surfaces during a quiet walk or in your workbook often becomes the most important material of the whole week.
Couples intensives are a strong fit for stuck patterns, specific ruptures, and partners who want to go deeper together. During your consultation, we’ll talk honestly about whether the timing is right for your relationship – that conversation matters, and we take it seriously.

What Actually Happens During the Week
People are often curious (and a little nervous) about what an intensive week really looks like. Here’s the honest picture.
You’ll work with your therapist in extended sessions – longer than a typical appointment, with a rhythm designed to support depth. Between sessions, you’ll have intentional breaks: a walk, a quiet lunch, journaling time. Your therapist will offer a prompt or reflection to carry with you.
This rhythm matters more than people expect. Deep work needs processing time. In an intensive, that processing happens within the container of the week, so when something surfaces overnight or between days, you’re back in the room soon, while it’s still alive. Your workbook is there to capture what comes up in those in-between spaces.
By the end of the week, most people describe a similar experience: something that felt immovable has movement. Not because of magic. Because sustained, focused attention (with real integration time built in) lets the work land in a way that’s hard to achieve in any other format.
How Therapy Intensives Complement Ongoing Therapy
This matters to us, so we want to say it clearly: therapy intensives are not a replacement for weekly therapy.
Many of our intensive clients are actively working with a therapist they love. They use intensives for one focused week on something specific, then return to their ongoing work with new momentum.
Others come to us specifically for an intensive without being in ongoing therapy. That works too. The intake session is how we figure out together whether the format fits where you are right now – and the follow-up session helps us decide together what kind of support makes sense afterward.
Either way, the goal is the same: real movement on something that matters to you, supported before, during, and after.
Is a Therapy Intensive Right for You?
Here are a few honest questions to sit with:
Is there something specific you’re ready to move through – not just understand, but actually shift?
Can you carve out one focused week, with space around your sessions for reflection and rest?
Are you genuinely ready to go deep? Not perfectly ready (nobody is) but willing?
If you answered yes, an intensive might be exactly the container you’ve been looking for. You’ve done the work of understanding. Maybe it’s time for the work of moving through. One focused week. Real breakthrough. We’d be honored to walk it with you.
